Customer Review: “(black G413 TKL SE)No, this isn’t a true budget mechanical (there are plenty of $25-$40 no-name mechanicals out there), though it’s about as cheap as you’ll find a true mechanical from a major brand-name maker….however, it’s better made, with nicer materials, fit-n-finish and better key feel than the cheaper ‘boards I’ve used and at a price that’s still within reach for most gamers (or folks who just prefer the feel of mechanical over membrane).This “SE” version of the G413 was purchased to replace my first gen. G413, which suffered a failed W key after three years of nightly gaming use. The SE has better key action and a more solid key feel than the earlier version, it also has more texture on the key cap surface and touts a new key cap material (this is a welcome upgrade, as I was starting to see the paint wear off around letters on my WASD keys on the OG version). The “board”/deck of the keyboard is similar to the older version, which is to say it’s very solid and well made, but the SE forgoes the USB port and dual cable of the original, it also doesn’t show up as a recognized device on Logitech’s G Hub software anymore.Key feel is a personal preference, so my 5 stars may be your 1 star… I’d call these switches a blending of a Cherry brown and blue switch as far as character: they’re sprung stiffer and have a more noticeable break point than a brown switch, but aren’t as firm or crisp as a blue and more importantly, are as quiet as a brown switch, overall a very pleasant compromise in my book. If anything, I’d say they have a more solid feel than even genuine Cherry switches and easily best the first gen. Since then I’ve preferred the lower profile keyboards, similar in style to laptops. I’ve been debating a mechanical keyboard for well over 6 months but it felt frivolous to spend money on a keyboard when I had a really nice one that worked just fine. Then I saw a meme that said something like: I’ve been typing since Apple IIe and my typing accuracy has only gotten worse so something’s wrong with the keyboards, and I was like YES, and proceeded through checkout.I’ve been wearing my nails longer lately and wondering if switching back to mechanical might be the way to go – the short of it is, yes. I find I can type easier and lot more accurately on this than my lower profile Logi keyboard (that I do love). The down side is I do find my wrists hurting after just a short time of typing due to how much taller this keyboard sits, so I will need to purchase a wrist rest.I debated for about 6 months on what keyboard I wanted to go with. I wanted a reasonable price, aesthetic look, nice “creamy” sound, and I needed it to be nearly 100% keys. I like and use a 10-key often enough that I knew I needed that, but the mechanical keyboards are already so much bulkier/bigger than I’m use to that I didn’t want to go with a full 100% keyboard. I decided on this, knowing that small 0 might be an issue. It is, but I think I can get use to it, but I’ll be hitting that arrow key next to it a lot. I also don’t like that the Home and End key’s are built into the 10-key. Those are keys I do use often, but key functions can be swapped around within the software you can download for your computer, so I switched Page up/down to be Home/End instead.Something else I really do not like is how tinny the spacebar sounds. You don’t realize just how much you use a spacebar until it doesn’t sound like the other keys you’re typing on. It’s like nails on a chalkboard for me, so I stuck some quilt batting down into the space under the spacebar (rather than inside of it) and that did a great job of softening the noise the spacebar makes. The video does a fairly accurate job of showing how the spacebar sounds off, but the creaminess of the keys in general doesn’t come through as well (they are nice and creamy).I do appreciate that there are 2 tilt height options. I like that this can use the dongle (and that it has a convenient storage space) or Bluetooth. They keyboard has really good weight to it and the interface is pretty straight forward and easy to use.I gave it 5 stars because it is as advertised, but if I were rating it overall with all other keyboards, 4.5/5 stars because that spacebar key sound is off, the 0 is small (I know, that’s how they all do it), and no Home/End key when a compact keyboard can have them and still be compact (see Logi k470 keyboard layout). Overall, a great keyboard and very happy with my purchase.”

Both colorways available are nice but I went with what i call the brown, beige, and white edition. Connectivity is flawless, the RGB behave and respond nicely. Screen set up was such an easy process and I was not expecting it to be so simple. There is software available but unfortunately its not accessible on mac os and I cant download on my work system. I was able to set the clock my RGB’s and volume in a span of less than 5 minutes. Its not a super heavy KEEB but its a good weight. STURDY! The switches and key caps give a nice thocky sound. The keyboard is responsive with light tap and the placement of the keys allow for less strain on the wrist and fingers by the end of a shift. Customer Review: “For clarity, I purchased the version with Brown Tactile switches.I started hunting for a keyboard for work after discovering that we were allowed to get our own rather than use the basic HP ones that came with our computers. I knew I wanted mechanical switches and something that was retro beige as I enjoy the earlier era of computing. I would normal spring for a Unicomp buckling spring keyboard (the modern version of the IBM model M), but those have gone up in price and I could not justify spending that much for a keyboard that I would be using at work. I began searching on Amazon.I settled on three different options. A vintage style keyboard from Keychron (the C2), This model I am reviewing, and another from Periboard (the 106-M). The Keychron was more expensive and didn’t quite have the looks (the numpad was missing any grey). The other Periboard had nearly perfect looks, the curved chassis that the keys sit in, and even had the right outline. Keyboard used to have more of a “forehead” past the F keys which makes them look more substantial and is a great place to rest a pen or pencil. The problem is that it is not mechanical, it’s a standard membrane keyboard. In hindsight I think I made the right choice, but I have to imagine that it is really well built for a membrane keyboard based upon this one.So, I chose this keyboard. Visually, it has more of a modern shape, and it also has the 0 key in the numpad as grey for some reason, and the indicator lights are blue rather than green. But, it overall looks the part. It feels very substantial and weighs much more than the default keyboard I was using. The plastics for the body and the keys seem dense. The switches have a fairly subtle tactile bump, less that a bucking spring but still there. It also sounds really good. A lower pitch than the old work keyboard. I think it might count as a “thocky” sound. Really a joy to use and type with at work. I honestly find the typing duties of my job more enjoyable now. For the price of around $35 when I got it, it’s 5 stars. Great for anyone who likes retro kyboards or just types.”

First impressions is that yes, this keyboard reminds me of my early 2000s HP computer way back in the day when I was 10 years old. So if you’re seeking nostalgia perhaps you’ll find some here in the way that this keyboard looks with it’s heavy use of gray and grayer. The switches feels okay, though it’s not my favorite either. It says it’s mechanical, but it feels like a hybrid switch, which doesn’t feel like a real mechanical switch. I’ve been using hall-effect keyboards as of late and I must say those feels very smooth. This keyboard feels nice still, but it’s just not as smooth. But if you like that resistance then perhaps you’ll like this keyboard.Some other thoughts:- The wire is not braided and is also not detachable and is permanently fixed.- This keyboard is also a full-sized keyboard, which means it’s quite long. I’ve been leaning towards the minimalist end of things to save precious desktop space, but occasionally will need a full keyboard at times for the numpad.Overall this is a decent keyboard. With its gray colors it presents itself as something of the old but under the hood has modern features like mechanical switches. Although this keyboard won’t be my main daily driver keyboard, I’ll keep handy as a trustee back up in-case my main hall-effect keyboard defects someday.”
