It has a nice break for each key and while the typing is not whisper quiet, it is much less than a cherry red mechanical. I can touch type easily and quickly as everything is where it should be. I also have a older Apex 5 keyboard with the Cherry Brown keys I believe – great keyboard as well, but noisy. I think this Apex 3 is superior in feel and typeability. I have never used the wrist rest before on any keyboards due to my very large hands, but this time I gave it a go, and it really improved the overall feel through my wrists. I am now a believer in the hard smooth angled wrist restsOne thing I really like about this keyboard is that you can get the white LEDs pretty bright so that I can program without overhead lighting and never not see the keys – it is bright enough and it looks legit while being bright. I am too old for the RGB effects, just give me bright white keys!On my Apex 5, I wore the keys to a high shine and it still hasn’t missed a beat. Steel series knows how to put out a extremely useable, high quality product every time. Customer Review: This was my first mechanical keyboard, but not the first one I’ve typed on.After using it for several weeks I have come to the conclusion that it is worth the $45 or $50 they charge. The keys feel nice, and the switches have a noticeable “bump” in each key press. It isn’t too loud, which was a necessity for me as I game and type late at night, and clicky key switches get very annoying after a short time. The plate that the switches are mounted to is made of aluminum, so the board feels very solid and has almost no flex. I bought a slightly different version of this keyboard for my mother a few years ago, and hers is still working perfectly fine. The SE version that I have, has better key switches (Longhua Browns) than hers does (Logitech Romer G) as far as feel goes, and uses the standard cherry mx style, so most keycaps will fit this keyboard if you wish to change the look of your keyboard.I did do two mods, (tape mod, lubricated stabilizers) and that significantly improved the sound, it’s less clacky and has a nice pop sound to it now. Highly recommend doing that if you buy this keyboard. I will say, this keyboard is NOT hot swappable, so changing the switches would require a soldering iron and patience. I plan to install hot swap sockets from mill-max so I can try different switches in this keyboard down the line. On a side note, you do have to take all of the keys off and remove several small screws in the aluminum plate to take it apart, so a switch puller is handy to have around. The plastic base cannot be filled with foam unless you choose to dremel out the support beams. I don’t recommend doing this unless you know what you are doing as it may cause the keyboard to become less sturdy.All in all, it’s excellent for the price and will work for gaming and casual typing and usage.

After several months of outright abusive use by my co-workers, they still performed flawlessly with a lovely sense of tactile feedback, soda spills aside. One failed only after half a thermos of coffee was spilled into it, but that’s to be expected from anything not waterproof rated.After ordering one for myself to use at home, I LOVE typing on it. It’s my first true mechanical keyboard, and it’s pleasant to just tap away, typing whatever I feel like. Each key feels like it’s got two levels of depression (almost like me): First a clear ‘catch’ when the key activates and types, and then another more firm one when you reach the bottom of the key well. I’ve yet to have it double-type anything even when my clumsy fingers wanted to, although it hasn’t saved me from butterfingering my keystrokes in games.As far as gaming goes, it’s not PERFECT. It does make an audible noise when typing, so when you are frantically spamming the strafe or jump keys, it’s going to sound like clicking the mouse over and over, but it’s really no worse than your average mouse. If you’re wearing headphones and blasting your speakers, you won’t notice it. If you’re in a silent small room, you can’t avoid hearing it. Find your medium.Its clearly more meant for office work, but I find it good for gaming, and it’s sturdy and heavy enough it doesn’t move around at all or feel like it’ll die if I drop my phone on it.

No dampeners or anything, stock.Extremely consistent switches. The amount of lube they come with is perfect for me. These are a little heavier than your Gateron browns (by 10g I think) but it wasn’t much of a noticeable change for me. They are the quietest switches I have found that also have a very strong bump. In my case I was interested in a sharp bump to give me feedback on when it was actually pressed. There is no travel.I tried the Gateron Browns, knockoff blues, K.A.L.H Hush Deep Sea Tactile, and Gazzew Boba U4’s (65g) and the Shrimps (67g).I noticed the these require noticeably less force (these are 55g) and they are quieter than all 3 of the others mentioned. The Deep Sea’s being the loudest, with the Shrimps and Boba’s being second loudest. (All 4 were quiet, but the Penguins were quietest). The Shrimps had a noticeably sharper bump but a less refined feel. They were closer to your cherry MX blues but felt hollow and cheap. The penguins have a slight “thud” and a smooth feeling click all the way through, aside from the pronounced bump before activation.I also noticed that when fully assembled in my keyboard, they had the least vertical “wiggle” than the others mentioned thus far. This is not really noticeable though.They sit higher than the Boba’s and lower than the Deep Sea’s. Very minimal difference. I didn’t get the Shrimps recorded in the video.Overall perfect this is the perfect switch. A lighter version would be nice though (its a little lighter than avg for these types it seems). I noticed it also has got some padding on the bottom for quieting them, but it doesn’t feel mushy. If you need them for a full keyboard though buy directly, it should be cheaper even with shipping. Will be buying these for all my keyboards from now on. Buy em!

Somehow Akko figured out a way to make silent-ish switches that do not compromise on tactile feel.Compared to a panda or a regular brown switch, the tactile bump is more pronounced while feeling rounder. The Penguin’s bump feels like going over a speed bump smoothly in a car while regular brown switches feel like hopping off of a curb.Factory lubing is excellent too. Very little to no scratchiness or spring ping in my set.Without an LED diffuser, these only let a minimal amount of light through even on a south facing keyboard like mine in the video.Installing them was a breeze, and akkos tray+case packaging is excellent.Typing on these is so smooth and they work well with such a wide variety of key caps. They’re honestly great switches for extended periods of writing and typing, and when you’re done working, the tactile bump also makes them great for gaming. The experience feels luxurious, buttery, and consistent.They’re not perfectly silent per se, but they are so much quieter than a regular switch.
